Poonam Maharaj-Wong is a Partner with Neel Shivam Lawyers, where  she heads the commercial practice division. 

A graduate of the University  of Waikato, New Zealand, she holds admissions to the High Courts of  both New Zealand and Fiji, and has been practicing  law in Fiji since 2002. 

Her legal expertise spans a wide range of  corporate and commercial areas, including company law and governance,  telecommunications, fintech, contract negotiation and drafting, regulatory compliance and advisory services, corporate restructuring, employment law, foreign investment, and real estate transactions.  

Poonam is a strong advocate for alternative and contemporary dispute  resolution methods, promoting collaborative approaches over adversarial  ones to foster a more constructive commercial landscape  in Fiji. 

In addition to her legal practice, Poonam has contributed to  legal education as an honorary instructor for the University of Fiji’s  Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (GDLP) programme. She previously  served as a Council Member of the Fiji Law Society.  In 2025, Poonam was elected Vice-President of the Fiji Law Society.
